Vesak Festival! Posted on April 10th, 2012 by

Saturday, April 14th, 9:00am-3:00pm, Alumni Hall

Vesak is the Buddhist celebration of the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha.  The event is very important in Buddhism, particularly Sri Lankan Buddhism.  The celebration usually consists of large paper lanterns and these are lit. Vesak will be hosted by the Gustavus Meditation Group on campus for the second consecutive year.  Last year it consisted of visits from Buddhist monks from around the area and highlighted 3 professors on campus who practice Buddhism.  This year it continues to grow as Meditations invites six Buddhist Monks and Nuns to discuss the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha.  It will also include opportunities for reflection and meditation as well as the opportunity to participate in Blessing Chanting. Everyone is welcome to come!
